ITB SEED Center Announcement of Doctoral Scholarship in
“Sustainable Energies”

 

Call for Applications

The TUM SEED Center is an Excellence Centre for Exchange and Development, led by Technical University of Munich (TUM), and funded by DAAD and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development from 2020 to 2029. The TUM SEED Center conducts research and offers higher education at the intersection of Sustainable Energies, Entrepreneurship and Development (SEED) in the Global South. Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Indonesia is a member of TUM SEED Center along with Technical University of Munich (TUM) and leading technical universities across the Global South, including Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia), Burkina Institute of Technology (Burkina Faso), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (India), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya), Makerere University (Uganda), Namibia University of Science and Technology (Namibia), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Peru), and Stellenbosch University (South Africa).

Who can apply?

This scholarship will be given to students registered as ITB doctoral students. The applicants are not necessarily required to be registered as ITB doctoral students at the time of applying for the scholarship. However, the selected applicants must pass the selection process for the doctoral program at ITB and be registered as ITB doctoral students for the duration of the scholarship. The selected students will follow joint supervision with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. The fields of study and research are sustainable energy systems, which include renewable electrical energy systems, smart grid, renewable energy penetration in electrical power grid, mini-micro grid systems, operation and control of power systems, maintenance of power system equipment, and artificial intelligence applications in sustainable power systems.

What is funded?

The doctoral scholarship includes a monthly stipend of EUR 600 for Indonesian students and EUR 700 for international students for 4 years, from the academic year 2025/2026 to 2029/2030.

During the duration of the scholarship, doctoral students are expected to:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the work as a doctoral student.
  • Participate in and contribute to the activities of the TUM SEED Center (e.g., annual symposium).
  • Conduct research and publish in reputable international journals.

Application requirements:

  • Has a master’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical power engineering, or related
  • Excellent academic track record that supports the doctoral program.
  • Extracurricular skills, social engagement, and strong

  • CV, including publications and research experiences
  • Letter of motivation
  • Certificates of bachelor’s and master’s degrees
  • Academic transcripts of bachelor’s and master’s degrees
  • Letters of employment (if applicable)
  • Recommendations or reference letters
  • English proficiency certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.)

Application Deadline: 30 April 2025

The interview for candidates who pass the administrative selection process will be held between 2-3 May 2025. The selection results will be determined in a joint committee meeting between ITB and TUM and will be announced in early June 2025. Selected candidates will be required to process his/her status as ITB students through a series of processes that can be accessed via the following link:
